The Virgin Mary learned to be a mother by welcoming Jesus into her womb and her heart. At his birth, she wrapped him tenderly in swaddling clothes in the manger. Listening to the cries of her little son, she was sensitive from the beginning to hear our cries and comfort us with motherly love.
The Virgin Mother searched anxiously for her son when he was lost in the Temple; she showered him with affection and cared for him in Nazareth, teaching him to pray and love; she followed him silently in the midst of the people and stood by his side on the cross at the moment of sorrow.
Our Lady was a tender mother to Jesus, her son, and she is a tender mother also to us, her son’s disciples.
