Quote of the day, 23 January: St. Edith Stein

The greatest clashes through the ages have taken place between the state and the Church: in Germany, such clashes have been designated as “Kulturkampf.” They are usually caused by the state’s excessive claim to power and by its interventions into the Church’s universal teaching mandate.

But it cannot be denied that this universal right can be exercised wrongfully by the representatives of the Church and that conflicts can be caused or intensified thereby.
