Quote of the day, 8 December: Silvio José Báez, o.c.d.

The Virgin Mary learned to be a mother by welcoming Jesus into her womb and within her heart.

At his birth, she wrapped him tenderly in swaddling clothes in the manger. Listening to the cries of her tiny child, she became sensitive from the beginning to hearing our cries and consoling us with motherly love.

She searched anxiously for her son when he was lost in the Temple; she showered him with affection and cared for him in Nazareth; she taught him how to pray and to love; she followed him silently, as she was in the midst of the people; and, she was at his side in the moment of sorrow as he hung on the cross.

Our Lady was a tender mother to Jesus, her son, and she is a tender mother also to us, her son’s disciples.

Silvio José Báez, o.c.d.
