O Mary, Virgin Mother,
pray that I may grow like thee,
keeping God’s words within my heart
to bear their fruit in me.
There is an English word that is very suitable to use when speaking about Our Lady and her task in the salvific plan of God and in our own lives. That is the word “responsive.”
With all her soul and with all her personality, Mary wants to be an answer to God and His will. Her soul, which is completely free from sin, can respond to God in every single instant of her existence.
For us who are so handicapped by Original Sin, it can be very difficult to respond to God and His will. But in Mary, we have an icon of what it is to be responsive to God and His grace.
