Jesus’s mission continues in the lives of all of us as his disciples, who are called to live as he lived, to take on his same concerns, and commit ourselves to the same issues to which he himself was committed. That is why we must always be at the side of the poor who are in need, of those who have been demeaned and marginalized for whom no one cares, and of the victims who cry out for justice.
This will be possible only if we nourish ourselves with the light and strength of the Word of God, which we hear first of all in the Bible, but which we also must learn to listen to in real life, which is the other book from which God speaks to us.
The Word of God that we hear in Scripture always invites us to listen to God outside of Scripture. With the help of the book called the Bible, we read and understand the book of life, we listen to the Lord through life’s events, and we prepare ourselves to respond to him.
