Quote of the day, 16 January: St. Thérèse of Lisieux

At Cana, seeing the married couple’s anxiety
Which they cannot hide, for they have run out of wine,
In your concern you tell the Savior,
Hoping for the help of his divine power.
Jesus seems at first to reject your prayer:
“Woman, what does this matter,” he answers, “to you and to me?”
But in the depths of his heart, He calls you his Mother,
And he works his first miracle for you….

  1. I have always loved this model of prayer: “They have no wine”. As I put it once to someone, Our Lady did not grab Him by the lapels and demand, “You have to do something!!” – no, simply brought the need to Him quietly, trustingly, “They have no wine”. I would do well to pray in the same way. I have read, I cannot say if it was true, that St Therese always refused requests to demand a specific outcome of Our Lord in intercession. His Will be done, in His timing, if He sees it be for our good. Excellent models for me. BTW, I put my Brown Scapular back on after our recent discussion…
