A soul depends on grace in proportion to its desire for greater perfection. God’s help is necessary at every moment because, without it, the soul can do nothing. The world, nature, and the devil together wage war so fiercely and so relentlessly that, without this special help and this humble, necessary dependence, they would carry off the soul against its will. This seems contrary to nature, but grace finds pleasure and peace therein.

By the way, you and one other OCDS take the credit for keeping the Living Flame alive in me. Mainly you.
Keep coming back and bring your friends, Kathie!
I have just written to my old President, scheduled for a decent hour, it’s now 3am here, re-establishing contact and thanking her for her past inputs.
How really beautiful!! I have only read Practising the Presence of God (twice), and have not heard of Brother’s Spiritual Maxims. I don’t know how it happened, but I noticed I was not receiving posts, and I seem to have unfollowed this site accidentally. Now resubscribed, happily receiving again. No offence intended by my absence. I have had a flurry with the OP’s, after my OCDS Council rejected me, but I am thinking of picking up my OCD books again. You can take the girl out of Carmel… Once tasted, always loved.
Frankly, I had wondered if you were taking an ascetic leave of absence. It’s good to see you back!
I should have noticed the absence of posts earlier, I see my last comemnt was 4th Dec. I suppose my attention was fully on Christmas and cards etc. Thansk for the warm welcome!
