Quote of the day, 3 January: St. Elizabeth of the Trinity

I am writing you before Matins in our dear little cell, and I wish I were a painter so I could make you a sketch of the scene that surrounds me.

The sky is beautiful, all clear and starry; the moonlight is flooding our cell through the frosted window panes, it’s ravishing; our window looks out over the quadrangle, an interior garden surrounded by our large cloisters; in the middle on a rock a large cross stands out.

All is calm and silent, and that makes me think of the night when the little Jesus was given to us. It seems I can hear the Angels singing their sweet canticle: “Rejoice, a Savior has been given to us” [Cf. Lk 2:10-11].
