Quote of the day, 6 December: Silvio José Báez, O.C.D.

The desert is a silent and uninhabited place, that is why it’s an ideal place to listen to and proclaim God. In the desert there are no sounds that can drown out the voice of the Lord, nor is there any interference that distracts from listening to it. It’s necessary from time to time to enter the desert, to strip ourselves of vanities and lies, to take off our masks, and face up to our misery and our fears. We need to seek solitude and silence, to go to the desert to listen to what we carry in our hearts, to pray, to open our existence to the Lord, and place our life in his hands. The season of Advent is a favorable time to go to the desert, and God always arrives where there is a heart willing to listen to him.
