…I can not enlarge any more, for we are about to leave for Medina. I’m feeling as usual. My companions send you their regards. It wasn’t long ago that Anne [of St. Bartholomew] wrote you the news from here. My best regards to all the Sisters. May God make them saints, and you along with them.
Valladolid, the fifteenth of September.
Your reverence’s servant,
Teresa of Jesus
We are now in Medina and so busy that I cannot say more than that the trip went well…
Saint Teresa of Avila
Letter 468 to Madre Catalina de Cristo, Soria
15-17 September 1582 (excerpts)
N.B. Teresian biographer and editor Kieran Kavanaugh, O.C.D. indicates that this was the last letter written by Saint Teresa before her death. She began the letter from the Carmel of Valladolid, traveled to the Carmel of Medina del Campo (although ill), where she arrived on 16 September, and then posted the letter to Madre Catalina on 17 September, barely three weeks before her death in the Carmel of Alba de Tormes.
