When God seems silent, he’s speaking to us in another way. When God seems absent, it’s because he’s present beyond our comprehension.
Bishop Silvio José Báez, O.C.D.
Auxiliary Bishop of Managua
Homily excerpt, 20 June 2021
Quote of the day, 21 June: Silvio José Báez, O.C.D.

PS this good Bishop never fails to astound me.
Isn’t this so true! My jaw dropped more than once as I read his homily.
“St. Teresa of [Jesus of] Avila wrote: ‘All difficulties in prayer can be traced to one cause: praying as if God were absent.’ This is the conviction that we bring with us from early childhood and apply to everyday life and to our lives in general. It gets stronger as we grow up, unless we are touched by the Gospel and begin the spiritual journey. This journey is a process of dismantling the monumental illusion that God is distant or absent.” Fr. Thomas Keating.
brilliant!
