We believe the apparitions of Our Lady to Sister Lucia in the Carmel of Coimbra over the 57 years she lived there were made in her cell, the gathering place of intimacy and prayer for the Carmelite. These visits happened with great secrecy and no one guessed when or where they might occur. Sister Lucia was always very poised and lived in times of prayer as in times of work, very cheerful and communicative in the time devoted to community life. Everything about her exuded the calmness and normalcy of a person living a quiet and happy life, completely abandoned to the will of God, without seeking anything extraordinary or outside the life of a Carmelite. She gratefully received what Heaven gave her as a gift of God, of which she did not feel worthy.
