Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 8–16, 2020: Day 4

This year our meditations will be guided by the young Discalced Carmelite nun from Chile, Saint Teresa of Jesus Fernández Solar (1900–1920) from the Carmel of Los Andes.

Day 4: Tender Mother

In seeing You so pure, so tender, and so compassionate, who would not be encouraged to unburden his intimate sufferings to you? Who would not ask you to be his star on this stormy sea? Who would not cry in your arms without instantly receiving your immaculate kiss of love and comfort? If one was a sinner, your caresses will soften him. If one is devoted, your presence will enkindle the living flame of divine love. If one is poor, you will aid him with your powerful hand and show him his true homeland. If rich, you will sustain him against the dangers of his very agitated life. If one is in affliction, you with your tearful gaze will show him the cross and your Divine Son.

Scripture: Psalm 103:13–14, 17–18

As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.
For he knows how we were made;
he remembers that we are dust.
But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
    on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.

Novena Prayer:

O Most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel,
Fruitful Vine, Splendor of heaven,
Blessed Mother of the Son of God,
Immaculate Virgin, assist me in this my necessity.
O Star of the Sea, help me and show me herein
that you are my Mother.

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of heaven and earth,
I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart
to succor me in this necessity.
There are none that can withstand your power!
O help me and show me herein that you are my Mother.

Our Lady, Queen & Beauty of Carmel,
pray for me and obtain my requests!
Sweet Mother, I place this cause
in your hands!

Don’t become discouraged and give up prayer, says St. John of the Cross. We offer three different novenas to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, as well as novenas to St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Sts. Louis and Zélie Martin, St. Elizabeth of the Trinity, and St. Joseph.

Let us unite in prayer
