Quote of the day: 1 July

For Jesus, that which is generously given to his disciples has an immense value, no matter if it is a simple glass of water: “And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward” (Mt 10:42). A glass of water may seem like a small thing, but love makes it great. A glass of water, given with generosity, is a sign of God’s love, as long as it is both cool water that quenches thirst and loving water that communicates joy and hope. In the very end, the whole gospel is found in a glass of cool water, which holds within it our own hearts.

  1. You might remember what I saw of the Holy Father at World Youth Day in Rio. The thing that impressed me most of his Pontificate. He was walking a mud road through a very notorious slum area. A lady came out of her home and stuck out a beaker of liquid to him. Before his security could even think, he drank it straight down. It could have had anything in it. I was totally impressed. Perhaps the Bishop saw it too.
