We must not stop being fed by Jesus: “My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.” (Jn 6:55).
- If we don’t feed on Jesus, we won’t experience the light of his spirit within us and we’ll be disoriented, susceptible to being manipulated by any ideology.
- If we don’t feed on Jesus, sooner or later life’s darkness and our own weakness will bring us down.
- If we don’t feed on Jesus, the journey through the desert of life will become so arduous that we’ll succumb to weariness and the temptation to turn back.
We can’t forget his words: “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you” (Jn 6:53).

I agree entirely with the good Bishop. I quoted that text only yesterday, in connection with not receiving the Eucharist for 3 months now. I have never been so hungry for Jesus in my entire life, not even as a catechumen. Yes, I watch Mass online, pray, make Spiritual Communions, read as best I can; and I was blessed with formation that Jesus is in His Word as truly as in the Host. But Oh, when I am able at last to receive Him sacramentally, I shall be crying with joy and relief.
