Lady of the mystic mountain,
where the Lord has set His throne,
up its steep way to the Spirit,
none can walk save love alone.
Grant us grace to climb Mount Carmel
and to learn that love is loss.
Guide us still our ways outdistance
all earth’s treasures save the cross.
This comes from a hymn text written by Sr. Miriam of the Holy Spirit, O.C.D. (1905-1988), who was a professed Discalced Carmelite nun from the Carmel of Pewaukee, Wisconsin. She was a renowned poetess who published under her baptismal name, Jessica Powers. You can find more of her poetry online or you can purchase a collection of her poems here:

p.s. you will find the full text of the hymn in the upcoming post, Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel: Day 9. It is the hymn for the Office of Readings.
