In company with the entire family of Carmel, we give thanks to almighty God for the beatification of our Sister Maria Felicia of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, lovingly known as Chiquitunga. Her beatification Mass was held in the football (soccer) stadium in Asunción, Paraguay on 23 June 2018 with Cardinal Angelo Amato presiding.
Father Miguel Márquez Calle, OCD represented our General Superior, Saverio Cannistrà; the Postulator General, Romano Gambalunga, OCD also was overflowing with joy to see the long-hoped-for day finally arrive.

In his homily at the beatification Mass, Cardinal Angelo Amato presented the new blessed as “an educated young woman, holy and enthusiastic about her faith and her vocation to the consecrated life”; a saint who, “today invites her sisters to feel proud of their vocation and happy in their daily commitment to the Lord”; a saint who “invites us all to live truly our Christian existence and inspire the Paraguayan youth to remain faithful in loving Jesus”.
The beatification ceremony was a great celebration not just for the Catholic Church in Paraguay but for the entire nation. National media in Paraguay—radio, television, newspapers, online media outlets—all covered the beatification day from start to finish, and provided extensive coverage in the weeks leading up to the big day. Because Paraguayan national television broadcast the day’s events from their YouTube channel, viewers across the globe could watch all of the coverage.
Our Discalced Carmelite friars provided their own account of the beatification with beautiful photos and eyewitness accounts from an “up-close-and-personal” perspective.
